Easter holiday Activities

We're taking a break from academic learning for the next fortnight.  This gives our families a chance to focus on themselves and their own interests.  If you are visiting from outside our school family then welcome!  You might be interested to see our approach to Continuous Learning at Westbury on Trym CE Academy.

There are tons of exciting things happening over the next two weeks which you can explore if you would like to.  If you do take part in something new and you'd like to share it with your teacher, then do post a photo to Seesaw so your teacher can see it.  If you have completed something as a family that you'd like to share with the whole internet, then please do send it to info@westburyontrym.academy and we'll publish the best ones here on this page.

 Live Lessons

Live Lessons Lots of live lessons are continuing throughout the Easter holidays.  Click on the button for a roundup of the best ones (in our opinion).

Exploring the story of Easter

EYFS - Have a look at these Cbeebies films to help understand the Christian Festival of Easter and how some Christians celebrate it.   Watch it. See what you can remember. Talk about why this might be important for Christians.

KS1 - Watch this Easter video then click here to download a follow up quiz and activity to do with your family.

KS2 - Watch this Easter video, then click here to download a follow up activity to do with your family.

You could make your own chocolate easter egg nest with your family.

If you want to be a little bit more reflective.  Click here to explore some Easter reflections written by Shahne Vickery with paintings by Nebiyu Assefa.

 Make your own Easter Bunny

This idea came from Child's World Art - facebook page- ask a grown up to log in to facebook to view the post.

Create your own Easter bunny

You will need
Some OLD SOCKS - 3-4 of them.
(Daddy's/Mummy large ones are good but any little will do too. See if you can find the ones which have holes in the toes or the ones that lost a pair.)
2-3 rubber bands /elastic hair ties.
Scissors
Glue
Googly eyes or handdrawn paper eyes.
Marker (to draw the mouth)
A bit of wool or a pompom for a tail.
Ribbons

Choose which sock will be the best colour for your bunny. Now Roll up any two other socks in a ball and stuff it into the bunny sock. Tie an elastic securely tight. That's the neck bit.
Next roll another sock in a smaller ball. Again stuff in the bunny sock. Tie again. That's the head.
Now the bit on top left over. Snip it down the middle 2/3rd way to the elastic. If you do all the way you will get floppy ears. Cut from edge to middle if you want pointy ears.
Draw eyes, mouth, eyebrows etc.
Decorate with ribbons, hairclips etc.

Can you name it? Read up all the books you can find about rabbits. Research their eating, sleeping, family habits. Are they similar to your family habits?

 Treasure hunts

 Family photo challenge

In our own school we are also inviting families to take part in a whole school art challenge which was set by the Getty museum in Los Angeles and the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.  All you need to do is have a look through these museums' digital collections of artwork and choose one that you would like to have a go at recreating in your home using the objects and people that are in your family.  Then send us an email to info@westburyontrym.academy including a jpeg or png file of the original picture, a full citation of the picture (so we make sure that we credit the artist and gallery correctly) and then a photo of your recreation.  We'll post them here in an online gallery and at the end of the holidays give you a chance to vote for your favourite one.

Here's one example.
